Choosing An Aquarium Pump- Good Pumps Make Your Pet Fish Healthier
Posted by admin

Mar. 2nd 2008
In a way, your aquarium is a simulated ecosystem— to maintain it, you must recreate what the natural environment does to keep fish alive and healthy. Supplying oxygen to the fish is one of the two most important things in recreating the ecosystem, and constant flowing water is the other. To simulate the effect of flowing water, aquarium pumps are needed.
A good aquarium pump keeps the water flowing, which is important for the air inside the tank to circulate and to allow the water to flow to the filter and remove contaminants.

Treating Ill Fish
Posted by admin

Mar. 2nd 2008
One of the most common mistakes which leads to the death of fish in an aquarium is improper care and treatment of diseased fish.
Disease causing bacteria is present in all tanks, but whether or not disease affects your fish depends on how strong the animal’s resistance is to the disease. Poor living conditions can make a fish more susceptible to disease, and even if you do everything right, disease may still affect your fish.
Therefore, it is necessary to understand how to determine your fish is ill and what you will need to do in the situation where your fish is ill.

Keeping A Red-tailed Black Shark
Posted by admin

Mar. 1st 2008
A Red-Tailed Black Shark is a stunning fish, with a velvety- black body, a bright red tail, and a lovely streamlined shape. If you are going to keep a Black Shark in your aquarium, and I highly recommend that you do, only get one, because they get very aggressive towards others of their species. When they are younger they are relatively harmless, but as they got older and bigger they can get very cantankerous.

The Discus Fish Tank

Feb. 16th 2008
Once you decide that keeping Discus Fish is for you - the very first thing you need to consider is - “What size aquarium do I need?”
Obviously you need to stick to what you can afford, and the amount of space you have available, but remember that the aquarium you get is going to be home to your Discus Fish, so it has to meet certain standards.
Since you’re likely to want to put your Discus Fish on display, most Discus Experts would recommend a fish tank no smaller than 120cm X 40cm X 50cm. Due to their body shape, Discus Fish tends to like deep tanks better. Also, to keep stable water conditions, you need an aquarium that will hold a lot of water.

What Is The Nitogen Cycle?
Posted by admin

Feb. 16th 2008
We’ve all seen salt water aquariums in books and on the internet as well as in our homes. They come in all sorts of sizes and shapes, some being enormous, then all the way down in size to a nano aquarium. Whatever size they are and whether they are fish only or reef, they rely on nature’s life support system, the nitrogen cycle.
Any aquarist needs to basically understand the nitrogen cycle. There is no requirement to become a scientist, just know what is going on. Then the dangers of stressing the aquarium will be better realized (as an example overfeeding, perhaps the main problem with fledgling aquarists?).

Freshwater Tropical Fish-mollies And Guppies
Posted by admin

Feb. 11th 2008
There is a large variety of freshwater tropical fish that you can add to your fish tank but my two favorites are Mollies and fancy guppies. These fish are livebearers meaning that instead of laying eggs, they give birth to a little tiny fish and they are, in fact, quite easy to breed even for a novice aquarist.
Mollies
A Molly is a great fish for a beginner hobbyist. These fish are fairly hearty and will withstand adversity and conditions well so if you make a mistake you can have a good chance of you for surviving. You want to be sure that you have a least a 15 gallon tank and you have a good heater as these fish like the temperature to be between 70 and 82°F.

The Goldfish Versus The Beta
Posted by admin

Feb. 4th 2008
Both the goldfish and the beta are popular choices for pets, and both are believed to be a low maintenance pet. So, which makes the better pet?
The goldfish is the most common pet in the world. It requires a tank, but never a just a small goldfish bowl or small container. Like all other fish, it requires oxygen, and the goldfish gathers oxygen from the surface of its home. Surface area is the important thing in providing enough oxygen for your goldfish.
